摘要
During the 1980s, most of the offshore operating companies in Norway expressed their intention to make divers redundant in subsea activities. There were three obvious reasons for this: safety, costs and increased water depths. The objective could only be met by development of new and more advanced tools for ROV operation. The subsea inspection and NDT work traditionally included complex operations and on-site evaluations of the measurement results. Divers used to perform the inspection and NDT work. One challenge was to perform these demanding diving activities by ROVs.
