'Special' boundaries and grain boundary plane engineering

摘要：
The definition of a 'special' grain boundary is addressed. A definition based on the presence of at least one low-index plane at a boundary is germane to grain boundary engineering. Experimental evidence is demonstrated. From the emphasis on boundary planes, 'grain boundary plane engineering' should be promoted. (c) 2005 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd.
