USER-CENTERED EVENTS IN A PERFORMING ARTS LIBRARY

After a two-year closure due to renovation, Kent State University's Music Library reopened as the Performing Arts Library. In an effort to entice back patrons who had endured two years without a library, and to attract new users, the Performing Arts Library began sponsoring events in its facility. Events bring in students and faculty from the School of Music and School of Theatre and Dance, as well as other university and community members. This article surveys existing event series at other libraries, defines user-centered events, details the process of selecting and setting up user-centered event series, and examines lessons learned from sponsoring events.
