摘要
In this final paper, we present a different component of technology development cycle time reduction, namely the development processes used to deliver automation components. While previous papers in this session have focused on the role of those products in reducing overall technology development cycle time, we focus in this paper on architectures and processes which enable us to deliver those components faster. In particular, we consider two case studies. First, we present a case study based on the ICATS product. We review the development methodology and present data on the development pace and quality, and review the validation methodology. We then present a case study on the Station Controller development methodology. This case study is a five-year experience in developing and consistently following a rigorous development process. We describe the software process, discuss the benefits of this approach, and justify the cost of setting up and following the rigid software process. Finally, we articulate some important lessons learned over the five-year history of following essentially the same development process.
