Dermatophytosis in company animals and its importance for Public Health - Literature Review

Dermatophytosis is one of the most frequent anthropozoonoses on clinic of company animals, affecting about 4 to 15% of dogs and more than 20% of cats worldwide. It is also known that around 30% of infections in humans are of zoonotic cause, with transmission occuring through direct contact with infected animals, or indirectly, by the exposure to spores in the environment. Thus, the objective of the present manuscript was to perform an updated literature review about the zoonotic and public health aspects of dermatophytosis in small animals, due its highly contagious aspect and the increasing importance for public and animal health.
