There are many types and projects of the traditional sports in western Sichuan minority nationality region that are handed down from generations to generations. Mainly by the way of religious belief, folk festival activities, production and living, struggles for existence, teachings and so on, these traditional sports can get inheritance and development. Along with the development of the western region and acceleration of the new urbanization construction, western Sichuan minority nationality region's social structure, the way of production and living and the traditional cultures have changed a lot, which leads to the changes of the national traditional sports environment, the constant shifts of the inheritance subjects and the gradual loss of cultural roots. Since traditional ethnic sports face double tension from traditional and modern societies, its inheritance and development are facing serious challenges. The thesis, based on the analysis of the dilemma of the traditional ethnic sports' inheritance in western Sichuan minority nationality region, puts forward some suggestions to inherit and develop traditional ethnic sports. For example, traditional ethnic sports can be protected by means of applying for Intangible cultural heritage, bringing it into school-based teaching textbooks, combining it with the system of national fitness and tourism development and so on.
