WHAT FORMAT OF LESSONS TO CHOOSE WHEN TEACHING INTERPRETING AT UNIVERSITY

Different generations study differently. The way we teach is gradually changing and it is clear that nowadays teaching should be different. Living at the epoch of great amount of knowledge, applications, and devices available at any time, for diverse purposes and at different levels, we may come to the idea that we cannot use the same strategies we had even in the recent past. We discuss various formats of lessons in this article trying to take into consideration both merits and demerits of each of them. Senior students of University were involved into going through different formats of classes and reflexing upon the process itself and its results. Both synchronic and diachronic methods of comparison were used. The conclusions were not dramatically unexpected and surprising, and they brought us to the idea that the most successful format of lessons when teaching interpreting was hands on training, regular and thoughtful. As we are more interested in the result than in the process, this format is the most successful way to acquire better skills in shorter period of time. It means that there is more interaction. That way gives better results and they are more stable.
