First HSUPA Live Demonstrations

Option has successfully completed its first demonstration of High Speed Uplink packet Access (HSUPA) data card calls reaching a wireless uplink transmission rate of 1.3 Mbps and a wireless downlink of 2.7 Mbps at application level. HSUPA enhances the data speed in the uplink up to a maximum of 5.7 Mbps, from the 384 kbps available with HSDPA. Nokia and Finnish telecom operator Elisa have carried out the world's first WCDMA/HSDPA data call on the 900 MHz band in a commercial network, which demonstrated a new possibility of enhancing the existing WCDMA 3G network. 3UK, Orange Telefónica, and Vodafone has launched a technical trail of TDtv, the UMTS TD-CDMA-3GPP Multimedia Broadcast and Multicast Services (MBMS) standard-based solution. Nortel has conducted the first wireless transmission using Uplink Collaborative MIMO to demonstrate the ability for operators to serve up to double the number of mobile broadband subscribers.
