摘要
The article examines the final decades of British colonial rule in Cyprus and the anti-colonial mobilisation which shaped the emergent post-colonial state, The article locates the emergence of the independent Republic of Cyprus in the wider post-colonial context and points towards continuities which can be found in the experiences of diverse post-colonial states, The study investigates the specific evolution of creek Cypriot nationalism and identity, the networks constructed in the anti-colonial struggle and the manner in which these nationalist networks shaped the form and content of the emergent post-colonial state, The article offers an explanation for why the anti-colonial movement in Cyprus acquired exclusively creek Cypriot characteristics and considers the implication of this phenomenon for the fracture of the post-colonial state itself.
