Analysis of the roll package's lifecycle

Demanding conditions during transportation of a paper and paperboard products call for a solution that serves a wide range of groups from paper mill to printing. One popular choice of material is a liner based wrapping. It provides a comprehensive protection during the voyage from the shipping dock to the unwinding location. The lifecycle of the package is eventful and composed of many different phases. The ideal "tour" for the package over its lifetime would be a circle. This option is available, but rarely occurs. This paper covers the entire range of roll package phases from a paper mill's wrapping line to the automated unwrapping at the printhouse or converting facilities. Starting with the packaging material, proceeding to the wrapping process, analyzing the logistics operations and ending with the opening of the package. Current approaches to the recycling of wrapping materials and more efficient logistics operations control methods are also discussed.
