Ultrasonic assessment of Portland cement at the early stages of hydration

摘要
A technique based on the reflection of ultrasonic waves in a semi-infinite mode was applied to a fresh Portland cement paste when it transforms from a viscous liquid to a solid phase within a few hours. The changes in the ultrasonic wave velocity allowed the detection of the cement transformation from a liquid to a solid. Shrinkage was also found to be associated with this modification. Marked changes of the reflection coefficient occurred later, from 510 to 600 min.
