The combustion synthesis of aluminium nitride

The combustion synthesis at normal pressure of aluminium nitride in a solid inert diluent (alumina, silicon carbide and aluminium nitride) was studied by thermogravimetric analysis. Using optical and scanning electron microscopy, it was observed that the morphology of the reaction products depended upon the nature and particle size of the solid diluent. When high thermal conductivity diluent was used (SIC, AlN) a much more dispersed morphology of aluminium nitride was obtained.
