Incorporating Knowledge Management Tools in the UK Local Government towards Improved Planning Support Services

This research paper aims to develop an integrated knowledge based planning system framework in the UK local government for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness. The data from five participating local councils in South East Midland is examined to develop the pragmatic research framework to achieve improved planning support services. Moreover, triangulation technique is carried out to safeguard the validity of the proposed research frameworks. This study focuses on the senior and middle level planning managers, who are involved in identifying, implementing and applying knowledge management practices within and beyond the local authorities' planning support services. The investigative result identifies the major knowledge management factors to achieve enhanced efficiency and effectiveness in the planning system. Further research could seek a greater understanding on the role of knowledge management in planning processes for improved productivity through extended fieldwork. This study has significant implication for the UK local government by formulating strategic plan to accomplish knowledge based planning system.
