摘要
Clark and Downey (1992) stated the distribution of Luidia clathrata (Say, 1825) is from Virginia, USA to southern Brazil, including the Gulf of Mexico. Hopkins & Knott (2010) erected a new species, Luidia lawrencei, from L. clathrata. We examined collections to establish the identity of specimens and their distribution. Luidia clathrata is found in the Gulf of Mexico in bays and near shore off the coasts of Florida, Texas and Campeche, Mexico. It also occurs near shore in the Caribbean Sea and along the coast of the United States from Virginia to Florida and northeastern South America to southern Brazil. In contrast, L. lawrencei is not found in the Caribbean or along the coast of South America. It is found in the Gulf of Mexico off the coasts of the United States and Mexico and along the Atlantic coast of the United States from North Carolina to Florida. Luidia clathrata is found on fine substrata and L. lawrencei is found on coarse substrata.
