Some thoughts on a modern research university

The views of K P. Chong, on the factors that need to be considered in establishing a research institute, are presented. Chong has been involved involved in the planning and design of a major modern research university. The author was involved in the project, along with a number of academic professionals. The university occupies the 17th place globally in the field of technology in the latest issue of the Times Higher Education Supplement. The research university has been able to occupy such a high position globally, due to the efforts of its founding president, the leadership, faculty, students, and the support of the community. University of California, SAN Diego, US, has mobilized the best students and faculty, investing in the latest technology, to emerged as one of the leading research universities in the world.
