The Interference of MIMO Transmission Modes in Downlink LTE Systems

Multiple transmission modes are allowed to be used in multiple-input multi-output (MIMO) LTE systems. Some previous literatures suggested that with the same transmission power, different MIMO transmission modes have different interferences on desired communication link. However, these works only considered ideal communication environment, none of them investigated the case in practical environment according to 3GPP LTE standards. Until now, the impact of different MIMO transmission modes in LTE network is still not known. In this paper, we investigate the interferences of different MIMO modes. Our works show that in downlink multi-cell LTE environment, different MIMO modes would generate different interference under different transmit/receive antenna correlation cases. Our study demonstrates that the transmission mode deployed at neighboring cells is also a factor which affects the performance of desired link.
