Thoracoscopic surgery requires dedicated instrumentation which, in some way, differs from the usual laparoscopic instrumentation. Optics and instruments must be adapted to the anatomical features of the thorax. We describe the currently available reusable and disposable instruments as well as optical systems for video-assisted thoracic surgery, Future lines of development are given.
