Design of a 1-bit Reconfigurable Transmitarray Element Using an Equivalent Magnetic Dipole

摘要
In this letter, a novel linearly-polarized 1-bit reconfigurable transmitarray element at 12.5 GHz is proposed. The element consists of a transmitting magnetic dipole patch, a receiving square patch, and a metallized via-hole between them. Two PIN diodes with opposite states are integrated on the magnetic dipole patch, thus achieving 1-bit phase tuning using the current reversal mechanism. Full-wave simulations show that the half-power beamwidth of the proposed element is 142 degrees in the E-plane by exploiting the radiation of the equivalent magnetic dipole, and the insertion loss is 0.74 dB with a 1-dB transmission bandwidth of 8.0%. The excellent performance of the proposed element demonstrates its promising prospects in wide-angle scanning transmitarray designs.
