Effective searching in the World Wide Web: search engines and search techniques

WWW search engines are the most often used Internet tools because they enable users to effectively retrieve and filter data from the flood of information in the World Wide Web. However, these search engines are of little use if one receive a message like ''90000 documents found'' asa result of a simple query. In this article several types of search engines will be discussed and their mode of operation will be explained. Examples show how the search engines can be used effectively. The use of so called intelligent agents for searching the World Wide Web will be motivated.
