Electroplating and Physicochemical Properties of Zinc-Nickel Alloy Coatings from Ammonium Oxalate Electrolytes

摘要
Electroplating of zinc-nickel alloy coatings (3-16 at % Ni) on Type 17G1S-U steel from ammonium oxalate baths is studied. The effects that the ratio of alloy components has on the coating's corrosion resistance and structure and the electroplating kinetic parameters are revealed. Applying zinc-nickel alloy coatings leads to a nearly sevenfold decrease in the corrosion rate compared to zinc-only coatings. The microhardness of high-alloy nickel coatings increases by a factor of 1.8 compared to their low-alloy zinc-nickel counterparts.
