Eleven taxa of Mucorales were isolated from soil-plates made with malt agar amended with 0, 100, 200, 500 or 1,000 mg/L of Pb(NO3)(2) or Zn(NO3)(2) and soil collected in an area contaminated with chemicals. The taxa isolated (Mucor bainieri, M. circinelloides f. circinelloides, M. circinelloides f. lusitanicus, M. circinelloides f. janssenii, M. hiemalis f. hiemalis, M. hiemalis, f. luteus, M. racemosus f. faccmosus Zygorhynchus moelleri, Absidia cylindrospora v. cylindropora, Rhizopus arrhizus, v. arrhizus and Cunninghamella phacospora v. phaeospora) are described, discussed, and illustrated. This is a second world record for Mucor bainieri, previously isolated only once in India, and this first record this species from Brazil.
