摘要
When memes are communicated from one carrier to another they need to be recoded from the memory's coding format into the medium's own coding format (books, images, sound). The WWW was explicitly designed to mimic the associative way in which information is stored in human memory and should, in principle, be most compatible with memetic evolution. Unfortunately, most present hypertext systems and the WWW, are passive systems of information storage with fixed network structure, thereby disabling the potential for true memetic evolution in hypertext networks. We have therefore created a system that implements a process of variation and selection for hypertext networks such as the WWW. By restoring the feedback loop between network structure and human navigators, it enables the memetic evolution of ideas within the medium of hypertext itself.
