China's Outward Group Investment (OGI) is an important phenomenon now and will be a trend in future. This paper researches the status and type of the OGI. We divide the OGI into three types, which are (1) an OGI pattern dominated by large enterprises, (2) an OGI pattern linked with value chains, and (3) the government-led OGI pattern. By taking the Overseas Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone as a platform in this paper, we analyze the operations of the OGI in terms of industry, location and investment.
