Magneto-dynamic field computations using a vector Preisach model

The paper deals with a numerical model for the evaluation of electromagnetic losses in one steel lamination under the influence of a rotating magnetic flux. For this purpose a vector Preisach hysteresis model is included in the macroscopic field calculations. Here, by geometrical considerations, the governing Maxwell equations are reduced to a system of parabolic PDEs with memory for the components of the magnetic field vector, under appropriate boundary and initial conditions. We present a suitable numerical approximation based upon a finite element - finite difference method, which properly takes into account the hysteresis effects. The study may lead to a realistic simulation of the iron losses in rotating electrical machines.
