摘要
Modern processors use complex logic to improve performance, which results in higher processor power consumption. However, many dynamic power scaling technologies, such as DVFS, are coarse-grained because of the limitations of the hardware. Therefore, we design a fine-grained dynamic power scaling pipeline called OTR. The OTR pipeline has three modes, OoO, OoOT, and OoOR modes. And different mode has different power consumption level. The experimental results show that OoOT mode has a small performance loss (3%) and a power reduction of 8% on average relative to OoO mode. And OoOR mode has an average performance loss of 28% and a power reduction up to 58% (25% on average) with respect to OoO mode. Moreover, this paper simulates the performance and power consumption at different frequencies. The results indicate that the OTR pipeline and DVFS can complement each other.
