Comparison of developmental competence of human embryos cultured in various culture media to the blastocyst stage

This study was conducted to compare the developmental competence of human pronuclear stage embryos to blastocysts in several culture media. Pronuclear stage human embryos were cultured for up to 6 days to compare their developmental competence in various culture media. Sequential P1/Blastocyst medium group and Vero cell coculture group showed better embryo development to blastocysts when compared with Vero cell coculture, the rate of blastocyst formation in B2, IVF-M3 and TCM-199 was significantly lower (P<0.05). Overall, the results suggest that both P1/Blastocyst and HTF medium are as effective as Vero cell coculture for the development of human embryos to blastocysts.
