Gangrenous vermiform appendix inside a strangulated inguinal hernia in an infant; a rare variety of Amyand's hernia

A 6-month-old infant presented to the emergency hospital complaining from right inguinal swelling and 2 attacks of vomiting for 4 h. During examination the child had tachypnea with tachycardia, the abdomen was distended and there was tender and tense right inguinal hernia with scrotal extension associated with redness of the skin. Theses clinical features were consistent with strangulated right inguinal hernia. Emergency operation done for him, during surgery there was a strangulated indirect right inguinal hernia which contained gangrenous vermiform appendix. Appendicectomy done with herniotomy. The infant discharged on the third poetoperative day with a good medical condition.
