ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE MANAGEMENT FROM A PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION PERSPECTIVE: THE CASE OF PRIENE

Cultural heritage conservation activities have been examined and implemented by experts in their fields through different approaches in certain periods. Conservation efforts, which were handled at the scale of a single building in the past, have started to deal with the cultural heritage with the environment in which it exists, together with different approaches, and this holistic protection has survived to the present day. The realization of the protection activities of cultural heritage sites within the plans created with systematic and realistic analysis of the current situation appears as a guide that has also been registered by UNESCO. By determining the advantages, disadvantages, opportunities and threats of the heritage to be protected with SWOT analysis, which is a part of the strategic management approach in public administration; thanks to the governance approach all stakeholders will be included in the process and a realistic, applicable and sustainable field management model will be revealed based on the results of the analysis. This subject is examined by examining the management models of cultural heritage areas determined both in the world and in Turkey; It has been adapted for the Ancient City of Priene, which was included in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2018.
