A medical geneticist, Michael Hayden, has developed a play-turned film, The Score, which focuses on the discovery of a cancer-causing gene. Hayden's goal in developing this play was to promote genetics research. In an attempt to prove this, the film pieces together a caricatured portrait of a laboratory and its lab members discovering this cancer-causing gene. A subplot of the story shows the mother of the plays principal investigator, Lynn Magnuson, who dies of Huntington disease also resonated with a member of the lab who is presymptomatic of the disease.
