Imago mundi: consciousness of globality and medieval cosmography

The present article aims to discuss about a consciousness of globality in premodern cultures that was expressed also through the writing of their histories. On this way, were considered to analysis the medieval cosmographic chronicles, known as imago mundi, as the imago mundi of the Catalan Atlas of Cresques Abraham and the Libro de las Cruzes, with focus in this latter. Considering the definition of consciousness of globality by Roland Robertson (1999) as the perception of connectivity and interdependence between the parts and the whole, it is intended to show how, historically, this understanding of the world was experienced and manifested in this kind of sources. As a methodology, will be applied the hermeneutic analysis of the source (in the order to understand the source in its own rationality) in relation with the heuristic interpretation. In this way, will also be pointed out some contributions of concept of global consciousness to the perspective of global history and the understanding of the medieval cosmoview unfold in the source.
