The Garner aldehyde-derived methylene alkene has been hydroborated using 9-BBN and the resulting organoborane employed in palladium-catalysed Suzuki coupling reactions to produce, after hydrolysis-oxidation, a range of novel amino acids as their N-BOC protected derivatives.
