摘要
Meulenhoff's salt 2 {(pyH)[B(cat)(2)]. H(2)cat}. H2O (1), has been prepared by the original literature method and its X-ray crystal structure determined. The stoichiometry is confirmed as 1:1:3 pyridine:boron: catechol, (H(2)cat, 1,2-dihydroxybenzene), though only two of the catechol units are bound directly to the boron centre. The IR and Raman vibrational spectra of the solid and the H-1, C-13{H-1} and B-11{H-1} NMR spectra of the complex in solution are reported, and suggest that the solid state structure of the anion of 1 is maintained in solution.
