Integrating learning with field trips and outdoor activities can potentially make learning more stimulating and fun. A proven approach to the design of effective outdoor learning experiences is to generate hands-on exercises that involve interaction with the reality seen by learners. The real world and its environment are continuously changing; it is therefore challenging to produce suitable and interesting reality-based interactive exercises with reusable scripts of learning materials. This paper presents a dynamic knowledge exploring system that can be used to present real world knowledge in a living environment by means of the latest identification and information presentation technologies. The system employs Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to determine the learner's current location or the identity of a target being seen by the learner, whereas Augmented Reality (AR) technology is applied to present the relevant dynamic learning materials on an image of the location/target seen by the learner. By presenting context-aware materials on an image of a scene/target, this interactive learning system will be able to deliver dynamic customized learning materials that will significantly enhance the educational and entertainment values of an outdoor activity.
