A two-dimensional and transient model for a polymer electrolyte fuel cell cathode and membrane

摘要
A detailed two-dimensional dynamic model of the cathode and membrane of a Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) is presented in the paper. The spatial variation of species distribution, electronic and protonic fluxes are considered both in the direction normal to the fuel cell layers as well as along the flow channels. The model of Gas Diffusion Layer (GDL) which is a part of the cathode is implemented and the results are presented. The results of the GDL Model are discussed with respect to their success in demonstrating the advantages of considering a 2-D dynamic approach.
