Extraction and characterization of semi refined carrageenan of red algae originated from Lontar beach

摘要
One of the biggest producers of Euchuma cottonii seaweed in Indonesia is Lontar in Banten province. Semi refined carrageenan (SRC) is one of the products that produced from Euchuma cottonii seaweed. SRC is widely used in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and foods industries. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of concentration, time and extraction temperature. The result is indicated that time, concentration and temperature extraction effected the quality of semi refined carrageenan (SRC). From the present investigation, it was observed that SRC extraction reached the best condition at temperatures of 70 degrees C for 2hours extraction time in accordance with FCC standards except for 7 % KOH the ash concentration below the FCC standard.
