THE IMPACT OF CORPORATE GOVERNANCE ON THE PERFORMANCES OF THE ROMANIAN FOOD INDUSTRY COMPANIES

Corporate governance covers all systems and processes in place to manage and control a company to increase performance and value. The corporate governance is one of die key elements for improving economic efficiency, particularly in the current context of financial global crises. Corporate governance regulations are not uniform across the world. Considering these circumstances, our paper examines the main characteristics of the corporate governance in Romania. Also, in addition to theoretical approaches, we aim to present corporate governance structures existing in the food industry in Romania and the economic and financial performance of their forms of ownership and size classes in 2000-2008, and its contribution to achieving key performance indicators of national economy of Romania.
