Preservice teachers from the United States (US) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) participated in online literature circle discussions of four multicultural children's books as part of their literacy coursework. The researchers examined preservice teachers discussions about language and culture raised through the reading of these children's and adolescent literature books. Preservice teachers formed communities of learning and the themes that emerged from the discussions included: language as communication, the power of language, cultural commonalities and cultural dissonance.
