A new, simple, precise, accurate, rapid, and stability-indicating high-performance thin layer chromatographic (HPTLC) method has been developed for the simultaneous determination of ciprofloxacin hydrochloride and tinidazole in tablets. The compounds were separated on silica gel 60F(254) HPTLC plates with chloroform-methanol-toluene-triethylamine-water, 2 + 2 + 1.6 + 1.5 + 0.4 (v/v) as mobile phase. Detection and quantification were performed densitometrically at lambda = 327 nm, The linearity ranges were 20-70 and 24-84 ng mu L-1 for ciprofloxacin hydrochloride and tinidazole, respectively. Assays for ciprofloxacin hydrochloride and tinidazole were 509.05 mg/tablet (RSD 0.27%) and 594.32 mg/tablet (RSD 1.68%), respectively, for brand 1 and 256.32 mg/tablet (RSD 1.03%) and 295.86 mg/tablet (RSD 1.09%), again respectively, for brand 2, Percentage recoveries of ciprofloxacin hydrochloride and tinidazole were in the rang 99.61-101.44 and 98.91-101.17%, respectively, for brand 1 and 99.22-103.11 and 96.28-98.74%, again respectively, for brand 2 respectively.
