Archaeological Reporting in the Press of the 19th Century

The present paper deals with archaeological press coverage of the 19th century. In a first step archaeological presentations in print-media are outlined followed by a presentation of three important archaeological sites (Troy, Olympia, Pergamon) by the associated press coverage. These examples illustrate the potential of archaeological studies which focus on methods of history of media as well as of history of science.
