摘要
"Jesus Christ's divinity and humanity" has been a hot topic in the Western theology and is also an important issue in John Milton's writings. Milton first expounds Christ's dual identity in his theological treatise Christian Doctrine, highlighting that humanity is the essential basis of Christ's identity. Later ih Paradise Regained, Milton chooses Christ as the epic hero and places him in the wilderness to be exposed to Satan's ten temptations which are particularly designed to try Christ's humanity in almost every aspect. Hence, Christ's humanity undergoes trials of all kinds before reaching its summit at which, Milton believes, divinity waits to reveal and integrate itself with humanity when and only when humanity resists all temptations and completely defeats evil.
