Grain growth and texture evolution in polycrystals with strong initial texture

Microstructure and texture alterations during grain growth in textured materials are simulated by a new statistical model taking into account the disorientation dependence of the grain boundary energy and mobility. Boundaries between textured grains A and randomly oriented grains B were assumed high-angle; the A/A boundaries had disorientation of 2, 5, or 10degrees. The character of the growth process, displayed in a novel map, is governed by the intensity and scatter of the initial texture. Both normal and abnormal grain growth lead to the vanishing of the main texture component. However, this component amplifies at the incubation period of abnormal grain growth, especially when the initial size distribution of randomly oriented grains is displaced toward small sizes.
