Voith is developing a new small hydro turbine called StreamDiver. The StreamDiver is a turbine that operates completely without lubricants and/or oil. In addition, it stands out by its modular and compact design. The hydraulic development and the model tests are carried out at the Institute for Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulic Machinery (IHS) at Stuttgart University. The European Water Framework Directive advises all member states of the European Union that all flowing waters have to achieve good ecological status. The StreamDiver can therefore be used as an environmentally sustainable method to revitalize unused hydro power potential in rivers or out-of-service power plants in an ecofriendly and efficient way.
