Youth unemployment in Cartagena: a transversal analysis of the causes and consequences

Youth unemployment as an economic and social problem has many causes and consequences that goes beyond the world of work and involves long-term effects among those who suffer it. This article analyze the effect of population dynamics, the educational level, the socioeconomic conditions, the production structure and the father's educational and labor profile on youth unemployment in Cartagena, showing the effects of, as factors that determine this phenomenon. In the same way, this article evidences how youth unemployment becomes in a social exclusion way, reproduction of poverty and the deepening of urban violence problems, manifested in youth gangs.
