COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION IN UNIVERSITIES IN THE CONTEXT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

摘要
This paper aims to evaluate environmental education in universities scientifically in the context of sustainable development. For this purpose, a comprehensive evaluation index system was established from four primary aspects, namely, capacity building, organisational leadership, outcome, and practice. The focus of the index system is the environmental awareness in universities. The weight of each index was determined through pairwise comparison by Analytic hierarchy process (AHP), and comprehensive calculation by Unascertained measure model (UMM). Then, the index system was applied to evaluate the environmental education in a key national university of China. The results show that the university has a good environmental education in the context of sustainable development. The practice has a high membership and receives high scores, revealing that the university is actively engaged in environmental activities. However, organisational leadership belongs to the general level, indicating that the university should optimise top-level design, strength organisational structure, and provide more organisation supports. Overall, the research provides a good reference for environmental education in universities in the context of sustainable development, and simplifies the evaluation process of environmental education.
