When tourism is used as a growth engine to assist in poverty reduction, there may be several advantages over other forms of economic stimuli. Tourism may provide the poor with more opportunities than any other economic sector. When the tourist gets to a place, the tourist roams around, and may therefore easily make contact with poor people. The direct tie to tourists is the source why there is widespread belief that tourism can reduce poverty. Many different service suppliers participate in creating a tourism experience. This creates the opportunity for poor, marginal, and remote areas to benefit from the advantages that tourism spending may bring to a destination.
