摘要
This essay is concerned with the musicality in Beckett's theatre. Apart from the inclusion of musical sounds and songs, it explores the structural elements of music and rhythm inherent in Beckett's aesthetics and his novel Watt before it investigates the musical processes that are at play in Endgame. Drawing on the notion of music as non-referential discourse, this paper argues that through the dialectical dynamics of rhythm and resonance, repetition and pause, simultaneity and closure Endgame redefines the link between drama and music in which the impossibility to represent becomes a poetic necessity to create.
