Directed Technology Changes and Energy Intensity-Evidence From China's Provincial Panel Data

摘要
Based on the division of technical change into directed technical change and embodied technical change, this paper investigates the relationship between energy intensity from 2002 to 2009 and different type of technical change, openness and some other factors. The result shows that embodied technical change has insignificant positive effect on energy intensity, but directed technical change has significant negative effect. Openness has ambiguous effect on energy intensity. By using added value in industry as the proxy of economic structure, we find a significant positive effect on the energy intensity. Therefore we argue that industrial sector promote energy saving technical change may do some good to decrease the energy intensity.
