摘要：

English reading serves as a target of learning as well as a tool for learning for university students in China. This study is an investigation of English major students' situation of English reading learning inside and outside the classroom. The empirical study provides information about what's the students' motivation, needs, the restraints and weaknesses in current reading teaching. Based on the analysis of the challenges, the paper puts forward suggestions to improve the present teaching of advanced English reading.
