An effective scheme for content-based image retrieval systems

This paper describes an efficient and effective scheme for content-based image retrieval processes. It includes two parts, feature extraction and dimension reduction. The feature extraction part integrates Gabor filter feature extraction and color histogram techniques, and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is introduced in the scheme to reduce the high-dimensional dataset. We stress on how to utilize the existing technology to improve the performance of image retrieval. Therefore, two applications based on the scheme are implemented.
