DetectSignal A Cloud-Based Traffic Signal Notification System for the Blind and Visually Impaired

摘要
The ability to know when to cross the road at an intersection has always been a problem for the Visually Impaired or Blind person (VIB). In this paper, we present DetectSignal, a cloud-based Internet of Things (IoT) edge computing solution that provides a highly available, highly scalable, high-speed, and low latency traffic signal notification for the VIB. DetectSignal provides an interconnected traffic signal by reusing existing infrastructure and attaching a low-cost loT device that connects with a traffic light and the public cloud. Our experimental results involve testing a notification system using a riltular compute virtual machine and IoT edge based serverless compute. The experimental results show that DetectSignal provides a more reliable solution that alleviates the current issues facing the VIB.
